Why visit
Panská skála near Kamenický Šenov is one of the best-known geological monuments in Czechia. Its regular basalt columns resemble organ pipes, and children may recognise the location from the fairy tale The Proud Princess.
The rock's present form was exposed by former quarrying. Its five- to six-sided columns formed as magma cooled; they are almost vertical and reach up to fifteen metres in length.
The upper part overlooks Kamenický Šenov and the surrounding hills. Below the rock is a small rain-fed lake in a former quarry hollow, while a historic Marian column stands at the south-eastern foot.
The rock is only a short walk from the car park, making it a good half-day destination or a stop on the way to Česká Kamenice.
