Why visit
The Loreto Chapel of the Virgin Mary in Rumburk was built between 1704 and 1709 to a design by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. It is an exact copy of the Holy House in Loreto, Italy, but here it is decorated with local sandstone.
The richly decorated chapel stands in the centre of the cloister of the former Capuchin monastery. Together with St Lawrence's Church, it forms a peaceful enclosed complex just a few steps from central Rumburk.
A visit reveals the site's architecture, decoration and spiritual tradition. The complex hosts exhibitions and a display of ecclesiastical art, although the latter is reached only by stairs.
